How to add Giving Levels to your fundraiser

Giving Levels are one of the most effective tools to inspire generosity and build momentum for your fundraiser. They help donors quickly understand how their contribution will make a difference and encourage them to give with confidence.

This article will walk you through what Giving Levels are, how to create them, and best practices for making them work for your fundraiser.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

What is a Giving Level

A Giving Level is a suggested donation amount that appears on your fundraiser page. Each level includes a short description that shows donors the impact of their gift—like $25 to help provide a warm meal or $100 to support essential school supplies.

Giving Levels help guide donors to take action faster and give more meaningfully.

Donors can still choose any amount they like, but when you present a few thoughtful options, it simplifies the decision-making process and often increases the size of the gift.

Note : Giving Levels are not added automatically. You need to add them yourself by editing your fundraiser.

Pro tip : Aim for three to six Giving Levels. This gives donors enough variety without overwhelming them, and makes your fundraiser feel focused and intentional.

Do Giving Levels have to offer a perk

No. You do not need to offer a perk to use Giving Levels.

You have the flexibility to:

  • Add a description that highlights the impact of each contribution
  • Provide donors with different giving options that make it easier to decide how much to give
  • Offer perks only if it fits your fundraiser’s purpose

Perks are optional and typically work well for product or entrepreneurial fundraisers—such as pre-sales, creative projects, or memberships. For charitable, emergency, or community-focused fundraisers, descriptions of impact are just as effective.

How to add or manage Giving Levels

Here’s how you can add, edit, or remove Giving Levels from your fundraiser:

  • Make sure you are logged into your LaunchGood account at LaunchGood.com/login
  • Go to your fundraiser page. If you're unsure how to find it, check out this article
  • Click Edit
  • From the left panel, select Giving Levels
  • Click Add Giving Level

Then follow these steps to complete each level:

  • Amount: Set the donation amount (we recommend starting from $15 or $20)
  • Limit: Choose unlimited or limited. If limited, set how many donors can claim this level.
  • Title: Give your level a name, like The Helper or Education Champion
  • Description (optional): Add a short note to highlight the impact or include any perks
  • You will also see optional checkboxes:
    • Require shipping address
      • Select this if you're sending a physical item and need the donor’s address
      • Note: This will make it mandatory for donors to provide their shipping address
    • Include Note
      • This allows donors to leave a custom note (for example, a message for the organizer, t-shirt size, or a name for a plaque)
      • You can check Make note required if the information is essential
    • Add Codes
      • You can include a fund code or campaign code to help track donations internally.
      • These codes are flexible and can be used however you choose—for example, to identify donations tied to a specific event or group.
    • Request email address
      • Use this if you’d like to collect emails for follow-ups, newsletters, or subscriptions
      • Add a short description to explain why you are requesting it (for example, We'll use this to send you exclusive updates)
      • You can also check Make email required if it’s essential for donors to receive a perk or content

  • When you're done filling in the details, click Save changes to save that Giving Level.

You can then:

  • Add more Giving Levels
  • Duplicate an existing one to save time
  • Edit or delete any level

After finalizing all your changes, scroll down and click Save & Next to apply everything to your fundraiser.

Tips to make your Giving Levels more impactful

Before you launch, here are a few best practices to help your Giving Levels truly support your fundraiser’s success:

1. Keep the focus on impact

Short descriptions go a long way. Make it easy for donors to understand how their gift helps—whether it’s funding meals, building a well, or supporting creative work.

2. Make it easy to choose

Aim for three to six Giving Levels. This gives enough variety without overwhelming donors with too many options.

3. Avoid low entry points

Try not to include Giving Levels below $15 (or the equivalent in your currency). Smaller amounts can be helpful in some cases, but generally lead to lower average giving and less clarity.

4. Use clear, distinct amounts

Avoid repeating the same amount multiple times. Each level should feel intentional and unique.

5. Leave room for flexibility

Steer away from levels that are too specific or restrictive about how the funds will be used. This gives you more freedom and builds trust with donors.

6. Prioritize quality over quantity

It’s better to have a few strong, thoughtful Giving Levels than a long list that feels cluttered or confusing.

7. Stay aligned with your fundraiser’s purpose

Choose levels that reflect your story, not just what you think donors want to see. A well-aligned Giving Level feels more genuine and invites deeper support.

In short:

  • Focus on what’s functional, not flashy.
  • Choose quality over quantity.
  • Build your Giving Levels around the needs of your campaign—not just donation size.

Giving Levels are a powerful way to bring donors closer to your mission. Thoughtfully designed levels help build momentum, boost generosity, and make it easier for people to say “yes” to supporting your work.
